100% grass-fed and finished. No grain, no hormones, no shortcuts. Just real beef from a real ranch.
MeadowLark Beef comes from the native prairie surrounding Theodore Roosevelt National Park in Medora, North Dakota — the Shade Ranch, founded by our grandpa Kim Shade. Our Black Angus, Red Angus, and Texas Longhorn cattle roam the Little Missouri National Grassland, grazing on drought-resistant native grasses with root systems stretching several feet into the soil, some over a hundred years old. That rare forage is what gives MeadowLark Beef its depth and character that grain-fed cattle simply can't match.
As an Audubon Society Certified Conservation Ranch, the Shade Ranch manages grazing to keep the land in balance — for the Western Meadowlarks, mule deer, whitetail, grouse, and everything else that calls this prairie home.
Grass-fed beef isn’t just delicious—it’s better for your heart. Compared to conventional beef, it naturally contains:
Because of these benefits, grass-fed beef can often be included in diets that normally limit red meat, making it a smarter choice for both taste and nutrition.

Our ranch is certified through the National Audubon Society's Conservation Ranch program. This certification means we follow science-based, bird-friendly ranching practices designed to protect and restore native grassland ecosystems. By using rotational grazing and sustainable land management, we promote a healthy prairie with diverse native plants and create an essential habitat for grassland birds that depend on it while helping reverse declines in species like meadowlarks.
